My Story
After 23 years of corporate life working across a gamut of industries, I had reached a phase when I wanted to shift to something more meaningful and acquire a more fulfilling career path. But I had no idea what I was going to do or how I would get there. I made the usual excuses like “it’s not the right time,” “it’s not the right place,”, “I don’t have enough money” or it’s plainly too risky. After more than two decades in the corporate world, I finally decided that the status quo was worse than the prospect of change, and I said, “Let’s go for it!” Now I’m a Life coach helping people transform their lives, and I love what I do!
But the road to get here wasn’t easy. I grew up in a traditional family, and I was raised with the belief that you go to a good college, get married, get a good job, work hard for someone else, save money, and eventually retire to start REALLY enjoying your life… But working in the corporate world, on the other hand, was a tumultuous experience at best. For 23+ years, I went through what seemed like an interminable amount of layoffs, restructuring, downsizing, reorgs, companies being bought and sold—you name it. Everyone believes that working for a company is safe because you get a “consistent” paycheck—well, so much for security! Despite all that, I managed to fulfill all my responsibilities. My work allowed me to live a life many would die to be in, bought my own house, sent my child overseas for higher studies, international travels, and fancy holidays. People around me were excited about my success, and I was miserable; I knew something was amiss. I lacked the freedom, flexibility, and creativity that I desired, and I felt suffocated as a result. I used to travel 100km every single day to work like a zombie. Then I reached a point where one day, on my way back from work while sitting in my cab, I thought, “Is this it?”, “Is this all there is?” there has to be MORE!
I decided to hire a professional coach, and at our first session, he asked me, “So, if you could get anything out of this session today what would it be?” I immediately replied, “Anything?” with a big smile. He said, “Yes, anything.” So I said, “Well, I would like to quit my job. I feel claustrophobic and want to be on my own .” I knew that wasn’t what he meant, but I still said it. The fear of failure was intense. It was difficult, but I decided there was no better time to begin my new life.
